Alix Crawford Carney and A Town Named Newry

Author Alix Crawford Carney with her novel and a cup of Newry Cafe Latte

About the Book: It is 1898, and Bridie Murphy, twenty-two, widowed, with three young boys, is in line at the port of Newry, Ireland, waiting to board the ship "Newry" bound for Charleston, SC. Bridie carries deep grief and confusion along with her scant belongings. Her story carries readers along on her journey to a new life in America. Bridie is a heroine both familiar and unique, and readers will remember her long after the book ends.

About the Beverage: Carney recommends pairing her novel with a Newry Cafe Latte because “Newry has undergone a resurgence, the face of which is the old Newry Store. Spiffed up, shiny and bright inside and out, and now named the Newry General Store and Cafe, it features coffees, baked goodies, and sandwiches. It was the perfect place for my first book signing.”

About the Author: Alix Crawford Carney moved from Miami, Florida, to Salem, South Carolina, in 2016. While exploring her very different surroundings, she ran across Newry, a rundown former mill town. The mill was abandoned and collapsing, but Alix felt the ghosts had stories to tell. Bridie Murphy and her story were born.

A TOWN NAMED NEWRY is available on Amazon in paperback for $17.95 and Kindle for $7.99. It is also published through Ingram Spark, so it is available from bookstores, though it will need to be ordered.
